Toxic baby food is not a problem that’s going away.
Recently news came out that 95% of tested baby food contains harmful substances like lead. Childhood exposure to lead has already been found to lead to a lower IQ later on in life with studies taken during the leaded gas era.
But this baby food contamination is happening now.
Similar news of lead contaminated baby food did come out a few years ago, but it is happening again! The study from a few years ago showed around 20% to 30% of tested baby foods containing lead. Now it’s 95%!
Ever hear your grandma say “this generation is not as smart as the past“?
Well, now it’s true.
For the first time in probably a really long time, people are actually getting less intelligent. The more advanced we get. The more knowledge we get. It seems to be making us more dumb. Along with attention spans lowering, we now have proof that IQs are lowering too.
I say “we” because I grew up using fluoride toothpaste and eating lead baby food too (if it was a problem in the 80’s and 90’s which it probably was).
I think the attack on our minds from all this poisoning is connected to the lead and fluoride in our water, as well as the heavy metals in our trusted baby foods. And far more but that’s for another convo.
Here’s the news report by Fox News from October 17, 2019.
If you weren’t’ already convinced to make your own baby food, then now you should be. Because toxic baby food products are not going away anytime soon.
Toxic Baby Food: The Study
We now know that baby food with lead lowers your IQ years later as an adult.
Here is the study that says that 95% of the baby food products you feed your infant, are toxic. The article has links to the full PDF report and executive summary in English as well as the summary in Spanish.
Out 168 major food companies, 95% were contaminated. All baby foods basically.
95% had lead, 73% had arsenic, 75% cadmium, and 32% were contaminated with mercury. 25% of the baby foods tested had all four of these horrible heavy metals.
The Chemicals Found:
All these neurotoxins were found. These have the power to completely blunt your baby’s IQ and learning progress. They permenently alter developing brains and affect babies’ behavior too.
Why is this happening?
This is what the study says. It says that they come from pollution in the environment, and from crops absorbing the metals from soil and water. It says it’s not just happening to babies. That these heavy metals are in all of our food. Because of this, they find their way into packaged baby foods too.
Children are so susceptible to the negative health effects from these, but the worst part is, they can’t fix it.
This was a problem in 2017 and it has only gotten worse. And people are still buying these baby foods! That’s the insane part.
This happening worldwide too. It’s not going to get fixed. Since 2017, the baby food contamination has increased. You’d think baby food is one of the highest quality types of packaged foods, but no.
If there we’rent enough outside factors doing their best to erode
The Most Toxic Baby Foods
The most toxic of all the baby food products were rice-based snacks, juices and sweet potatoes.
To avoid toxic heavy metal residue contaminating your baby’s food, first step is to avoid these. Second is to source your own ingredients and start making your own baby food with a baby food maker.
More Studies On Lead And Children’s IQ as Adults
Here is a meta analysis from PubMed that shares data on how low-level lead exposure affects children’s IQ.
In it, they state,
A highly significant association was found between lead exposure and children’s IQ
Another related study is in this article on Science Daily. It shares results from a Duke University study that says lead exposure during childhood is not only linked to lower IQ, but also to “lower status jobs as adults.”
In the Duke study, they monitored over 500 children who were raised with lead exposure before unleaded gasoline was produced..
Their exposure to the powerful neurotoxin may have led to a loss of intelligence and occupational standing by the time they reached age 38.
This study took kids from New Zealand around 1972 during the leaded gas days. They found that for each 5 microgram increase of lead in their blood, a person lost around 1.5 IQ points.
This recent news of lead and arsenic in baby food begs more questions that just how do we start making our own baby food. It makes you wonder why. It’s enough that it was a problem once. But again?
What To Do: Make Your Own Baby Food
If you haven’t considered making your own baby food, now it’s time.
We do this and it’s very easy if you have one of these baby food maker food processors.
With a little preparation, it really is not that much more work than opening a glass Gerber jar or handing your kid one of those now toxic baby food pouches.
Plus, you’ll save yourself a lot of money by buying a baby food maker and making the food from scratch.
Here’s the same type of baby food maker we have. This one is has a full 5-stars rating. All of the ones built similar looking to this should be suitable if they’re high quality. It’s best to have the food bowl be made of glass.
How we make healthy baby food
A quick breakdown of the DIY baby food process:
- Attain some organic chicken or white fish with bone
- Make bone broth
- Once it cools, freeze them in little containers with lids
- Get some organic vegetables (from a trusted source, preferably the farmer’s market if you don’t grow your own)
- Cut some veggies in pieces and put a block or two of frozen bone broth in the baby food maker
- Let cool and then feed your baby some healthy homemade baby food.
Childhood exposure to lead has been found to lead to a lower IQ later on in life. It’s been found recently in baby food products again. You need to never buy these if you’re currently buying baby food.
Get a baby food maker and chop up some pumpkin, carrots, vegetables etc. Make some bone broth, pour that in the baby food maker along with the chopped vegetables. And have yourself baby food that truly nourishes your baby. We freeze bone broth and each morning put a cube in the baby food maker along with the veggies.
If you’d like to start growing some of your own vegetables to make your own non toxic baby food, it’s easy if you have a raised garden bed. Our raised garden bed review post shares different high quality options you can use to start growing organic vegetables from anywhere. You can do it on an apartment balcony or a backyard patio.
